Danger: Is AI making the first consultation a second opinion?

Tuesday November 17th, 2026 - 11am EST, 4pm GMT, 5pm CET

Cheap testing and fast AI answers provide unprecedented accessibility, but they do not inherently improve patient outcomes… and can sometimes worsen them.

Many patients now arrive at their first appointment with home-collected test results and an AI-generated interpretation already in hand. Patient-centric sampling and conversational AI have made diagnostics more accessible than ever, but access alone does not improve outcomes. Results without context can create false reassurance, unnecessary anxiety or delayed care. Drawing on fertility care as an example of complex care pathways, this panel discusses how remote diagnostics, lab innovation, and AI can be used to redesign integrated patient journeys and improve the outcomes that matter for both patients and clinicians.

What you will learn

  • Remote diagnostics: what patients told us about capillary versus venous sampling, and what labs need before they trust a sample collected at home
  • Data, decisions and dangers: when cheap tests and AI chatbot answers help patients, and when they cause false reassurance, anxiety or delay
  • Interpretation vs diagnosis: where explaining a result ends and diagnosing begins, and who is accountable when AI gets it wrong
  • Unblocking the journey: what is really stopping remote diagnostics becoming routine, and how telemedicine and well-governed AI can improve outcomes today
